CampyRoads is a travel resource built for people who love life on the road. Whether you’re living full-time in a van or planning your first RV trip, we’re here to give you tested advice, gear reviews, and simple how-tos that actually work in the real world.
The site is founded by Rachel, a middle-aged traveler who hits the road with her husband whenever life allows. Together, they’ve logged thousands of miles across backroads, campgrounds, and open highways, all with a campervan as their home base.
Who We Are
CampyRoads was created by real travelers, not marketers or influencers. Rachel, our founder, is a long-time explorer who started out with weekend camping trips and slowly transitioned into van life as a way to reconnect with nature, with herself, and with the freedom that comes from living simply.
We believe experience builds trust. That’s why everything we share comes from first-hand knowledge. We’ve cooked in cramped camper kitchens, dealt with unexpected engine trouble, and figured out how to stay warm on chilly nights in the desert. If it’s on CampyRoads, it’s because we’ve lived it.
You won’t find hype here, just honest, helpful content. We test products, map out routes, and write guides with the same care we’d use if we were planning a trip for a close friend. Our goal is to make life on the road less overwhelming and more rewarding, especially for people just starting out.
Our Mission
CampyRoads helps van lifers and RV travelers feel confident, prepared, and free.
We do that by offering real-world tips, gear reviews, and stories that come from actual experience.
Our mission is to simplify van life. We break down complex decisions, like choosing the right solar panel or finding a legal place to park, into clear, step-by-step advice. We aim to reduce stress, save time, and help you focus on what really matters: the adventure.
We’re also committed to accessibility. Whether you’re retired, remote working, or weekend traveling, CampyRoads is built for all kinds of journeys. You don’t need to be extreme, you just need to be curious and ready to try.
To keep our recommendations honest and useful, we follow a hands-on process for every product we feature. Learn more about how we test products here.
Our Vision
CampyRoads wants to make road travel easier, more inclusive, and more sustainable.
We see a future where anyone can live the van life dream without needing a huge budget or years of experience.
We believe that road life is for everyone, not just influencers or full-timers. Our vision is to build a trusted online hub where you can find real stories, helpful advice, and a supportive community, whether you’re in a minivan or a 40-foot rig.
In the long run, we aim to be the most reliable van life resource on the web. We’ll keep expanding our content, testing new gear, and partnering with brands we trust—all to help you feel more at home, wherever you’re parked.
What We Cover
CampyRoads covers everything you need to make life on the road easier, safer, and more enjoyable. Our content is based on real experience and designed to answer the questions you’re likely asking, before and during your journey.
Here’s what you’ll find across the site:
- Gear reviews that are tested in real conditions: We don’t rely on manufacturer claims. We test solar panels, portable toilets, cooktops, batteries, heaters, and more—then share honest pros and cons.
- Step-by-step van life guides: From building your camper to finding a safe place to park overnight, our how-to articles break things down clearly and practically.
- RV and campervan travel tips: We share packing checklists, route ideas, campground reviews, and seasonal planning tips to help you get the most out of your trip.
- Budget-friendly recommendations: We understand not everyone can spend thousands on custom builds or luxury accessories. That’s why we highlight affordable alternatives that work well in real life.
- Stories from the Road: We reflect on the challenges and joys of van life, sharing lessons learned, beginner mistakes, and unexpected moments that make the journey worthwhile.
Meet the Team
CampyRoads is run by a small, dedicated crew of travelers and tinkerers. We’re not a big company, we’re just real people who love the freedom of the open road and want to help others enjoy it too.

Rachel Whitman – Founder & Editor
Rachel is the heart behind CampyRoads. A lifelong road tripper and nature lover, she started the site after years of part-time van living with her husband. She brings a practical, empathetic voice to everything we publish. Her focus is helping newcomers feel at home on the road, without needing to “go all in” or break the bank.

Jake Lawson – Contributor
Jake has been exploring North America in his converted Sprinter van since 2019. He contributes travel guides, boondocking tips, and route breakdowns based on real miles driven. He’s especially passionate about finding quiet, off-the-beaten-path spots that are safe and scenic.

Nia Harper – Product Tester & Contributor
Nia leads our hands-on gear testing. From portable showers to power banks, she puts products through real use on the road. Her background in engineering helps us evaluate build quality, usability, and value with a critical eye. If it’s in our top picks, Nia’s tested it.
